1. Overseas Highway (US-1)
Miami to Key West. 113 miles of bridges over open ocean, turquoise water on both sides, sunset over the Gulf. America's most scenic drive. Allow 3–5 days.
2. A1A (Coastal Florida)
Runs the entire east coast of Florida (450+ miles) from Amelia Island to Miami. Best sections: Daytona Beach to Flagler Beach, Palm Beach to Miami Beach.
3. Tamiami Trail (US-41)
Tampa to Miami via Naples and the Everglades. 275 miles, mostly two-lane, with sections through Big Cypress National Preserve and the Miccosukee Indian Village.
4. Sunshine Skyway
The cable-stayed bridge from Tampa to Palmetto. 4.1 miles, 190 feet above Tampa Bay. One of America's most photographed bridges.
5. Alligator Alley (I-75)
Naples to Fort Lauderdale through Big Cypress National Preserve. 80 miles of straight highway with sawgrass prairie and cypress stands on both sides. Better than it sounds.
6. Scenic Highway 30A
24 miles of beach road along Florida's Emerald Coast. Grayton Beach, Seaside, Rosemary Beach — the most charming beach communities in the Southeast.
7. A1A through Amelia Island
The northernmost section of A1A. Historic Fernandina Beach, Fort Clinch State Park, oak canopies draped in Spanish moss. Old Florida at its finest.
8. Natchez Trace Parkway
Technically in Mississippi and Alabama, but starts in Nashville and ends in Natchez. 444 miles, 50 mph speed limit, no commercial traffic. America's most relaxing drive.
9. Suwannee River
Florida's Nature Coast. US-19 and US-129 along the Suwannee River. Crystal River (manatees), Fanning Springs, Manatee Springs. Old Florida springs and rivers.
10. Ocala National Forest
Florida's most forested region. SR-40 and SR-19 wind through pine forests, sand hills, and natural springs. Juniper Springs and Silver Glen Springs are must-visits.
11. Florida Caverns State Park
The only air-filled cave system in Florida. SR-166 through the panhandle's hardwood forest. Combined with the surrounding Florida state parks, it's a day-trip dream.
12. Bahia Honda State Park
The most beautiful spot on the Overseas Highway. Old Bahia Honda Bridge (now a fishing pier) is the most photographed structure in the Keys.
